Everything you could want to do is nearby. beach, fishing, water
sports, downtown Charleston, Historic plantations, fabulous restaurants,
serenity and relaxation. A Folly/Charleston combo vacation can't be beat.
Best of beach and city vacation all in one.
Folly Beach is also known as the “Edge of America”. This oblong barrier
island stretches 6 miles long and is nestled between the Folly River and
the Atlantic Ocean.
The City Pier, which extends more than 1,045 feet into the Atlantic Ocean,
is opened to the public for walking, fishing, shopping, dining, and
restrooms. The shop at the pier has gifts, beach accessories, and if you
want to fish, you can rent everything you need including license.
On the eastern tip of the island you’ll find an outstanding view of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Morris
Island lighthouse stands all alone about 300 yards off shore from the island of Folly Beach. It can be
viewed from the northeast end of Folly Island and from the bridge coming on to Folly Beach. Take E. Ashley
Street until it ends. There is a parking lot there and then it is about a ¼ mile walk to the beach.
Parking and Beach Access:
There is beach access at every city block along the island and these accesses each have parking. The
cost to park is $1 per hour from 10am - 5pm. Parking is free on the streets, but if you're parking on grass
or sand, make sure your tires are not touching any part of the bare road or you will be ticketed. There is
plenty of parking at the county park located at the west end of the beach. Admission is $6.00 per car for
the day.
Folly Beach County Park:
All of the beaches on Folly Island are beautiful, but the most beautiful area of "untouched" beach is at the
Folly Beach County Park at the west end of Folly. To get there take W. Ashley Ave. all the way to the west
end of the Island. The street dead-end's into the Folly Beach County Park. Amenities include 2500 feet of
ocean frontage, 200 feet of river frontage, dressing areas, outdoor showers, restrooms, boardwalks,
picnic areas, and a snack bar (seasonally). Boogie boards, bicycles, umbrellas, and chair rentals are also
available between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season only.
